The workshop on "Revamping Hydropower Research," organised by EERA's Joint Programme Clean Energy tranSition for Sustainable Society (e3s), Joint Programme Hydropower, and Transversal Joint Programme Digitalisation for Energy, will take place in Brussels on 24 September, 2024, from 9:00 - 16:30 CET.
In light of the pressing need to accelerate the clean energy transition (CET) and meet ambitious climate targets, Europe faces challenges that require a multidisciplinary approach. Recent policy developments emphasise the crucial role of hydropower in achieving these goals, highlighting the importance of integrating digitalisation, grid optimisation, and environmental considerations.
This workshop addresses how hydropower technology, combined with digitalisation and grid integration, can accelerate a cost-effective energy transition while ensuring nature conservation and incorporating social science insights. Key topics include:
